Hanson Homer Lifts Millers to 7-3 Win

A four-run sixth inning backed up another solid start for Terry McNabb as the Moose Jaw Miller Express won their second straight on Saturday night.

Moose Jaw picked up a 7-3 win over the Yorkton Cardinals at Ross Wells Park to improve to a WMBL-best 8-5 on the year.

McNabb was outstanding in his six appearance of the season as his record climbed to 5-0 on the year. The Davidson native lasted eight innings, allowing just three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.

The game was a pitcher’s duel into the sixth inning with Yorkton holding a slim 2-1 lead. The Millers had just two hits heading into the inning, but they would score four in the frame to take the lead for good, going up 5-2.

Miles Hunter started the inning off with a single and eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Ben Douglas. Brennan Reidy added another run with an RBI-single and Dylan Hanson brought Reidy in with a two-run shot to right field.

The Millers added two more runs in the eighth inning as insurance for the eventual 7-3 win.

The bottom of the order came through for the Millers in the win as the 6-8 hitters went a combined 7-for-14.

Hanson went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored; Reidy was 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored; Douglas finished 2-for-3 with one run scored and an RBI; while Frank Pluskota had two hits and two runs scored.

Jason Renner pitched a scoreless ninth inning with a strikeout and a walk to finish off the game.

This is the fourth two-game winning streak of the season for the Millers, but they have yet to win three in a row.

They will have a shot at making it four straight on Sunday as the Millers head into Weyburn for a doubleheader against the Beavers. They hit the field at 2:05pm and 4:05pm for two seven-inning games.
