Hunter Named WMBL Player of the Week

Moose Jaw Miller Express center fielder Miles Hunter has been named the Western Major Baseball League Player of the Week.

Hunter is a 21-year-old from Calgary, who just completed his senior year with the University of Calgary Dinos. While with the Dinos, he was awarded first team all-conference CCBC honors.

This is his second season with the Millers and he continues to be a highly productive and consistent at the plate. For the week of June 13 to 19, Hunter his .467 (7-for-15), he had a .556 on-base percentage, and a .800 slugging percentage. He drove in seven runs, added four runs scored, and had one home run on Father’s Day with his dad in attendance at Ross Wells Park. He currently leads the Millers with a .466 batting average, which is second in the WMBL, he has four doubles, one triple, one home run, 14 RBI’s, eleven walks, and three stolen bases.

Academically, Miles held a 3.95 GPA throughout his senior year, and has been accepted to the University of Calgary’s medical program. He will start his studies this fall in what he expects to be the orthopedics field.

Hunter is the third Miller Express player to win weekly award honors. Last week Derek Cornell was named Player of the Week, while two weeks ago Terry McNabb was named Pitcher of the Week.
