Millers Say Good Bye

The loss to Medicine Hat ended the year for the team and the WMBL careers for a number of players on this year's squad. Hunter, Renner, Terry McNabb, Austin Russell, Frank Pluskota and Todd Leavitt all wrapped up their WMBL careers this season. “These were the best two years I've had in a while,” said an emotional Renner. “I owe Coach Hunt, coach (Cory Olafson) and my host family, the Pisio's, they've been so gracious to me for the past two years.” Hunter wasn't expected to be in the lineup for game four on Monday, having to go back to Calgary for medical school, however after some discussion decided to play one more game with the team before his career was up. “It was after the game (on Sunday),” said Hunter. “We got that last out in game three and I thought, 'Oh geez, I don't want to walk away from this.' I pulled a couple strings, mostly the heart strings of my mom, just to have a ride back. We won that game and it's impossible to walk away from these guys for sure.” After missing most of July, Hunter was able to play in all four playoff games for Moose Jaw and ended up hitting .500 in the series. He finished the game 1-for-4 with a bunt single on Monday. “I can't describe how lucky I felt to have that fall into place and be able to sneak away from school to play ball, I couldn't have asked for anything better,” said Hunter. “It was a nice way to finish out, to be with the boys and fight with them all the way to the end.” The Millers will hold their team awards night and a goodbye supper on Tuesday before the players head back to their respective schools.
