Season Comes To a Close

It was a bittersweet end to the 2015 Western Major Baseball League season for the Moose Jaw Miller Express. They put together a stellar performance in their final game, knocking off Melville 5-0, but just a short while after the win, the team would find out that it wasn't enough to get them into the 2015 postseason thanks to Swift Current winning in Regina. The Millers wouldn't be playing in the playoffs for the first time in six seasons. Head coach Michael Hunt said how the season ended was a lot like how their entire season went with a lot of unknowns. “We didn't know what we were going to get from day-to-day because of our youth,” said Hunt. “The intensity was always there, the quit was never going to happen, everybody fought. “I know that these guys are going to grow into some pretty stinking good ball players. We have a lot of 18, 19-year-old kids here that have made a lot of noise in this league, so the sky is the limit for them.” The Millers were a much younger team this year than normally with only a small number of players returning from last season. While there were many growing pains throughout the season, there were a number of standout performances and plenty of growth shown by the team. “Physically there's not a whole lot of time to work on things because we play virtually everyday, but mentally, between the ears, we saw some guys really scuffle and struggle with some things and when it came around to having those same things happen, it didn't downward spiral like it did the first time around,” said Hunt. “We saw a lot of good things, a lot of positive things, especially with the intellectual and mental side of the game.”
