Veterans Returning To Moose Jaw



The Moose Jaw Miller Express are pleased to announce the return of five players for the 2016 Western Major Baseball League season. Pitchers Tanner Spencer, Kyle Sonntag and Grant Westmoreland, along with third baseman/pitcher Chris Suarez and catcher Jeremy Stidham will all be back in the Friendly City this summer.


“It’s incredibly important to return players with such high character and influence on a game. They will be leaned on by the coaching staff to be stabilizers on the field and in the clubhouse,” commented Millers Head Coach Michael Hunt on the players return. “It won’t take them long to show the newcomers why they were held in such high esteem by player and coaches around the league last year.”


“Spencer and Kyle are both seasoned veterans of the WMBL and are ready to lead the charge. They are tremendous clubhouse leaders and will anchor our pitching staff,” said Hunt. “Chris and Grant will reprise their roles as a closer and starter respectively and are anxious to return. Catching all of them will be Stidham, his defensive presence will be welcomed back by our entire staff.”


Spencer, RHP 6’3 180lbs, is from Craik, Saskatchewan and entering his fourth season with the Miller Express. Last season he started nine games and posted a 2-4 record, in 50.1 innings he had 43 strikeouts, 22 walks, and a 4.64ERA. He has appeared in ten game for the University of Nebraska Kearney posting a 1-3 record, in 27.1 innings he has 16 strikeouts, 16 walks, and an 11.20ERA.


Sonntag, RHP 6’5 225lbs, is from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and entering his second season with the Millers. Last summer he started nine games and appeared in ten total, he had a 3-5 record and in 62.1 innings he had 35 strikeouts, 13 walks, and a 3.89ERA.


Westmoreland, LHP 6’3 185lbs, is from Pearland, Texas and entering his second season with the Millers. Last summer he made three starts and appeared in nine games, posting a 2-3 record with 19 strikeouts, 17 walks, and a 7.02ERA in 24.1 innings. He is currently attending the University of Houston-Victoria, he has appeared in 14 games and has posted a 2-5 record, in 49 innings he has 41 strikeouts, 37 walks, and an 8.27ERA.


Suarez, 3B/RHP 6’0 195lbs, is from Spring, Texas and entering his second season in Moose Jaw. Last season with the Millers, Suarez appeared in 36 games in the field, in 120 at-bats he had two doubles, one homerun, 18RBI’s, and a .275 average. On the mound he appeared in seven games and in 8.2 innings he had eight strikeouts and six walks. This season with New Mexico Military Institute, he has played in 45 games in the field, in 135 at-bats he has 12 doubles, three triples, six homeruns, 41RBI’s, and a .311 average. On the mound he has appeared in 18 games and has posted a 1-1 record with eight saves, in 23.1 innings he has 31 strikeouts, four walks, and a 1.16ERA.


Stidham, C/OF 5’9 190lbs, is from Colorado Springs, Colorado and entering his second season with the Millers. Last summer he played in 44 games, 41 of which were behind the plate where he caught 256.1 innings, in 141 at-bats he had four doubles, one triple, four homeruns, 16RBI’s, and a .241 average. Playing at Eastern Michigan, Stidham has played in 44 games and in 144 at-bats he has eight doubles, three triples, seven homeruns, 19RBI’s, and a .243 average.
