The Moose Jaw Miller Express are pleased to announce the signing of infielder Jordan Abushahla, and pitchers Michael Cartwright, Travis Kuhn, and Kobe Portillo for the 2016 WMBL season.
“Michael, Travis, and Kobe come from our pipeline programs and we are happy each time we are able to help these programs out with getting players WMBL experience,” said Millers Head Coach Michael Hunt on the addition of the trio.
“Michael is currently a red shirt at Division 1 University of San Diego and the crafty lefty possesses an arsenal of pitches, while Travis will be attending USD in the fall. He brings a power arm and is expected to join the back end of the staff to close games for us and the Toreros.”
Cartwright, LHP 6’0 195lbs, is from El Cajon, California and is currently red-shirting at the University of San Diego. Kuhn, RHP 6’0 190lbs, is from Norco, California and currently playing with Norco High School and will be joining Cartwright at the University of San Diego in the fall.
Abushahla, 5’9 175lbs, is from Woodland Hills and is currently attending Los Angeles Pierce College, and will be going to the University of San Diego in the fall. He has 128 at-bats in 34 games, he’s hit five doubles, one homerun, 12 RBI’s, and a .297 batting average. “Jordan bolsters the defense and can handle the bat as well,” Hunt said on the signing of Abushahla. “He’s an impact glove and combines to give us 3+ defenders up the middle of the infield.”
Portillo, RHP 5’9 170lbs, is from Tulare, California and currently red-shirting at Fresno City College. “Kobe is red-shirting this year due to the incredible depth the program (Fresno CC) has in its rotation. We will be adding him to our rotation as soon as he’s able and are excited to include him on a long list of Fresno City performers,” said Hunt.
Portillo joins the likes of Sean Buford, Robert Alcala, Steven Moranda, J.J. Santa Cruz, and Brandon Acosta who have come to Moose Jaw from Fresno City College.
