9th Inning Comeback Win Friday Against Weyburn

In need of something to spark the team, the Moose Jaw Miller Express might have found it on Friday night.

The Millers came storming back to grab a win out of the hands of defeat in a 6-5 comeback win over the Melville Millionaires at Ross Wells Park, ending their six-game losing skid in the process.

Second baseman Lane Harvey was the hero with a two-run walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Moose Jaw to the win, which saw them score six runs in the final two innings.

Harvey went 1-for-4 with a run scored, two RBI and the game-winning double.

Trailing 5-0 going into the eighth inning, the Millers started their comeback in the frame, scoring four runs with two outs.

After a walk by catcher Zak Kellogg and a single from left fielder Brooks Benson, first baseman Travis Ouellet cashed in both runners as he smacked a first pitch two-run double.

Ouellet came around to score on an error as second baseman Lane Harvey advanced to second during the next at-bat. After a walk by shortstop Jordan Abushahla, Harvey came around to score Moose Jaw’s fourth run of the inning on a single by centerfielder Shoma Sasaki.

Harvey would come into play in the ninth inning as well with the Millers still trailing by two heading into the final frame.

Moose Jaw didn’t wait until they had two outs to get the rally started as a single by right fielder Cutter McDowell and a walk by third baseman Cole Distler. A one-out single by Benson loaded the bases and after a fielder’s choice by Ouellet, Harvey smoked a two-run double to win the game for the Millers.

Michael Cartwright was credited with the win on the mound for the Millers after pitching 1 1/3 scoreless, and hitless, innings of relief. He struck out two and walked one to keep the Millionaires in check.

Starting pitcher Tanner Spencer exited the game after the sixth inning. Melville scored four of their five runs off him in the first two innings, putting up three runs on three hits in the first inning and then adding another run in the second and one more in the fifth.

Spencer allowed five runs on on seven hits with six strikeouts and four walks in the no decision.

Kobe Portillo relieved Spencer for the seventh inning and pitched 1 2/3 innings of perfect relief to set up the comeback for Moose Jaw.

The Millers will get a day off on Saturday and then return to Ross Wells Park on Sunday when they host the Weyburn Beavers at 7:05 p.m.
