May 16, 2017

The Moose Jaw Miller Express have announced the additions of Colorado products Ben Dalke, Pate Katechis, Scott Platt, Mitchell Robinson, and Travis Edgar for the 2017 Western Major Baseball League season.

“Pate brings a huge arm for the outfield and a showcase power bat to go with it,” commented Millers Head Coach Michael Hunt.  “He's a difference maker on both sides of the ball and will fit in nicely in the middle of the batting order.”

Platt, INF, 5’11” 185lbs, is also from Longmont, Colorado and played this season at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.  In 29 games this season Scott had a .229 batting average with seven doubles and 13RBI’s.

“Scott is a versatile middle infielder, he can start at either short or second base, and play the outfield if needed,” said Hunt.  “He's a scrappy player that fits our culture well and were excited to have locked him up early in the recruiting process.”

Robinson, RHP, 6’1” 165lbs, is from Golden, Colorado and Edgar, RHP, 6’5” 225lbs, is from Gypsum, Colorado and both also played at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Mitchell Robinson appeared in 14 games this season, he started 13 games and posted a 4-7 record and had three complete games.  In 84.2 innings he finished with a 6.38ERA with 53 strikeouts and 17 walks.  “A junior work horse at school, Mitchell has been at the top of their rotation his whole career there,” said Hunt.  “He brings a lot of experience and leadership to the staff and fills a huge gap left by graduations last summer.”

Travis Edgar appeared in 12 games this season and posted a 0-2 record, in eight innings pitched he had ten strikeouts, eight walks, and a 16.88ERA.  “A big armed reliever, Travis will fill in at the back end to bridge the gap between our starters and closer, he brings a much needed presence in today's bullpen game,” said Hunt.

Dalke, 1B, 6’4” 205lbs, is from Castle Rock, Colorado and red-shirted this season at Central Missouri.   “Ben was signed for the 2016 season, but a knee injury forced him to sit out the entire summer,” said Hunt.  “He will be a two-way player for us, serving as an alternate closer as well as occupy first base. The former Colby (Community College) Trojan will also reunite with Jeremy Stidham to create the heart of the batting order.”

The Millers open the 2017 WMBL season Thursday, June 1 in Swift Current, their home opener will be Friday, June 2 against Weyburn at Ross Wells Park.
