Millers add to outfield, McDowell returns

(Marc Smith, DiscoverMooseJaw.com) The Miller Express will be getting a big boost to their lineup and outfield this week with the addition of Cutter McDowell.

McDowell was the Millers’ Silver Slugger award winner last season as the team’s top hitter after posting a team-high .356 average, 11 doubles, 28 RBI and 20 stolen bases.

After putting together a strong senior season with the Lamar University Cardinals, McDowell was hoping to get drafted in the 2017 MLB Draft, however didn’t hear his name called.

“He was in talks with the Los Angeles Angels and Toronto Blue Jays, but for whatever reason talks fell through and then I thought for sure he’d have a chance to go play pro ball independently, but it just didn’t happen,” said Hunt. “He contacted me on Friday and asked if there was still a spot and absolutely.”

Hunt added that McDowell will give them some good depth in the outfield and will also make their already potent lineup even stronger.

“We already had a pretty good lineup, we’re second in the league hitting .297 as a team, so adding a player like that is really a cherry on top,” said Hunt.

McDowell is expected to be available on Tuesday night in Swift Current.
