With the 2018 Western Major Baseball League on the horizon, the Moose Jaw Miller Express are excited to welcome back five players from last year’s team. Returning to the Friendly City this summer are Adam Cook, Scott Platt, Travis Edgar, Jesse Marks, and Mitchell Robinson.

“The more returners the faster the learning curve gets ironed out, the faster the expectations are circulated, and the faster we see results from a statistical and community stand point,” commented Head Coach Michael Hunt on the returning players.

Platt (INF), 5’11”, 185lbs, is from Longmont, Colorado and is currently playing at the University of Nebraska-Kearney. In 46 games last season with the Millers he had six doubles, one homerun, 16 RBI’s, a .276 batting average, and eight stolen bases.

Cook (1B/3B), 6’3”, 205lbs, is from Cambridge, Ontario and currently attending Colby Community College in Kansas. In 37 games last summer Cook had five doubles, one triple, 13 RBI’s, and a .253 batting average. In three playoff games he had two homeruns and a .364 batting average.

“Both players (Pratt and Cook) are going to be expected to lead by example on and off the field. They are two high quality people and baseball players,” Hunt said on his two returning position players. “They are both salty and grind to find a way to help the team achieve its goals.

Robinson (RHP), 6’1”, 180lbs, is from Golden, Colorado and is wrapping up his senior year at the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Last summer he started eight games and appeared in nine total, in 50 innings on the mound he had 38 strikeouts, 10 walks, and a 2.88ERA.

Marks (RHP), 6’1”, 175lbs, is from London, Ontario and has finished his junior year at Adrian College. In 2017 he appeared in 11 games and started in five of them, in 28 innings he had seven strikeouts, 11 walks, and a 7.39ERA.

Edgar (RHP), 6’7”, 225lbs, is from Gypsum, Colorado and has finished his senior year at Montana State. He came out of the bullpen 18 times last season and in 17.1 innings he had 18 strikeouts, 10 walks, and a 5.71ERA.

“Travis (closer) and Mitchell (starter) are key guys on the staff and I'm hoping that both seniors can lead the way with big innings at their respective roles. They were priority signings in the fall for good reason,” Hunt said. “Jesse will be a third year player and has been a starter and a bullpen guy so he brings experience to both roles. He's going to be leaned on as a stretch guy when we need long relief.”

The Moose Jaw Miller Express open the 2018 WMBL season Thursday, May 31st when they take on the Yorkton Cardinals, then on Friday, June 1st they battle the Swift Current 57’s. Both games are at Ross Wells Park and start at 7pm.
