Two nights and two wins for the Moose Jaw Miller Express to open the season.

Moose Jaw hit the road for the first time on Thursday night and they picked up a commanding 10-2 win over the Swift Current 57s at Mitchell Field.

The Millers made a lot of noise with their bats in the win, but head coach Rich Sorensen said it was the pitching staff that won the game.

"Matt Jackson did a really good job throwing four innings for us and then Nico Portillo came in and did a really good job, four scoreless innings, and that just really set the tone," he said. "Our offence was real good, but it really started on the bump tonight."

Jackson allowed two runs -- one earned -- on three hits and three walks over four innings. He had three strikeouts.

Portillo came on in relief and was lights out over four scoreless innings. He scattered three hits and two walks while striking out two.

Jaden Hoffman finished off the win, striking out the side in the ninth inning.

Outfielder Michael Borst led the way for the Millers at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored and three RBI in the win.

"He is just a great three-hitter because he's patient, he'll let strikes go by that’s something that he just can't handle and he'll get a pitch that he can handle," said Borst. "Both of his hits tonight were with two strikes, which is very key, and he's able to go to right field. If he's pulling the ball, he's off, and when he goes to right centre, you know he's on."

The Millers fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, but the offence found life in the third inning when Borst drove in Eric Marriott with a two-out single.

Catcher Cole Warken led off the fourth inning with a triple and eventually came around to score on an error later in the inning.

After Swift Current tied the game in the bottom half of the fourth, Moose Jaw blew the game open in the fifth inning as Borst and Darren Doll came around to score on a bases-loaded walks by Geordie McDougall and Alex Orenczuk.

A two-run single from Isaiah Arroyo added two more runs for the Millers to make it 6-2 after five.

Borst drove in two more runs with a triple in the eighth and Doll cashed him in with a two-out single to put Moose Jaw in front 9-2. The Millers added another run in the ninth to seal the win.

Diego Jordan started for Swift Current and allowed two unearned runs on four hits in four innings.

Corbitt Cimadevilla was tagged with the loss after surrendering four runs on four walks and a hit in 2/3 of an inning.

The Millers will host the 57s for a rematch on Friday night at Ross Wells Park, first pitch is at 7 p.m.

Moose Jaw also welcomes in the Yorkton Cardinals for a two-game weekend set. They meet at 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
