The Moose Jaw Miller Express only had four hits on Wednesday night, but they made them count in a 3-2 win over the Okotoks Dawgs at Ross Wells Park.

The Millers improved to 6-6 with the win, while the Dawgs lost for just the third time this season. They'll close out their three-game set on Thursday.

"It's great to get back in the win column, Gally came out and pitched a hell of a game, threw a lot of strikes and competed, that's what you need from your starting pitching. From an offensive standpoint, their pitchers battled and kept us off balance, but we found a way to scrap a few," said Millers shortstop Zach Campbell.

Blake Gallagher struck out seven over six innings of work to pick up the win on the mound for Moose Jaw. He surrendered a solo home run to Brett Esau and two hits in the first inning but held the Dawgs to just one hit in the five innings after that.

The game still came down to the wire though as Okotoks threatened in the ninth inning. One run came around on an error and the Dawgs had the tying run sitting at second when Davis Todosichuk singled to left field, but Tucker Zdunich had another idea, gunning down the runner at home to end the game.

"I knew there was a fast guy on second and I was just looking for a play like that, and as soon as I got it, I knew that I had a chance with him and I just wanted to get it in as soon as possible, got it on the one-hop and it was awesome to get him out there," said Zdunich.

Moose Jaw scattered three hits over the first four innings, but they finally broke through in the fifth. Devon Farrell and Markus Melendez led off the game with walks, Farrell scored on a single from Campbell, and Michael Borst cashed in Melendez with a groundout to give Moose Jaw the lead.

The Millers received some much-needed insurance in the eighth inning when Campbell led off with a walk, advanced to second on a groundout, moved to third on a passed ball and scored when the catcher threw it away.

Campbell led Moose Jaw's offence, going 3-for-3 with the game-winning run, a walk and an RBI, which pushed his average up to .226 this season.

"I'm starting to see it a little bit better, my swing is starting to come back," said Campbell. "I'm seeing the ball well and finally had some barrel control."

Jack Gamba got the save for the Millers, getting the final out in the ninth after coming on in relief of Michael Ross, who allowed one unearned run on two hits with four strikeouts in two and 2/3 innings of work.

Okotoks starter Justing Hammergren struck out eight over five innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and three walks.

Moose Jaw struck out 13 times in the win.

"They're tough, they're a good ball club, but we got hits when we needed to, got bunts down and moved guys over," said Campbell.

The Millers and Dawgs finish off their mid-week series when they square off on Thursday night at Ross Wells Park. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
