FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Moose Jaw Miller Express Board of Directors, in conjunction with the Saskatchewan based Western Canadian Baseball League teams, have announced that they will not return for the summer of 2021.
“Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions that we are unable to control, the Millers will not be able to play baseball this season,” commented Millers President Darryl Pisio. “At this time, we felt it was too hard to predict if restrictions would be lifted by the time our season started. We felt it was important to allow players that have already committed to us to give them as much time as possible to find a place to play this summer.”
“Just like other leagues in our area, it was hard to predict the status of the Canada-U.S. border, our fan capacity, and the possibility of intra-provincial travel. This is a heartbreaking decision for our organization and others in our province. However, we want our fans to know that we will be working hard over the next year at improving the fan experience for when we return in 2022,” Pisio added.
The WCBL Saskatchewan Franchises have worked diligently for months with Government officials and the Saskatchewan Health Authority on “Return to Play Protocols”. With so many unanswered questions, the planning and feasibility make it impossible to have a season.
The Moose Jaw Miller Express want to thank our fans, sponsors, supporters, billet families, and the City of Moose Jaw for their on-going enthusiasm and commitment to our organization throughout these difficult and unprecedented times.
Even though there will be no WCBL games played in Moose Jaw this summer, the Millers Board will be working throughout the coming weeks on several initiatives that will help the viability of the organization and the improvement of Ross Wells Park.
Thank you again for your support of the Moose Jaw Miller Express. Baseball is and always will be the best game in the world to us. We look forward to bringing you an enhanced fan experience when the Western Canadian Baseball League returns to Saskatchewan in 2022.
